Head Instructor : Master Andy Jeffries 7th Dan Changmookwan, 6th Dan Kukkiwon
Master Jeffries began training under Grandmaster Pan Sim Woon in 1986 and has been training at Stevenage Taekwondo ever since. For a couple of years he taught his own club (Collenswood Taekwondo Club) but merged it with Stevenage Taekwondo in 1994. He spent quite some time assisting teaching at seminars with Grandmaster Pan. He was promoted to 7th Dan Changmookwan, 6th Dan Kukkiwon in January 2016 and is the head instructor at Stevenage Taekwondo.
He is registered with the World Taekwondo Headquarters (Kukkiwon), a member of the Kukkiwon Membership System allowing him to promote students to 4th Dan black belt with worldwide-recognised Kukkiwon certification and he is registered with the World Taekwondo Changmookwan Federation allowing him to promote students to 5th Dan black belt with Changmookwan certification. He is also certified by the Kukkiwon as a Poom/Dan Examiner.
In 2012, Master Jeffries was invited to attend the prestigious World Taekwondo Leaders Forum by the World Taekwondo Headquarters (Kukkiwon) in Seoul, Korea. This invitation only event gives masters a chance to build relationships with the founders and seniors of the martial art in Korea, receive information on the current and future plans for Taekwondo and provide input on how Taekwondo is around the world. Master Jeffries was was certified as a Regular Member of the World Taekwondo Leaders Forum. During his trip to the World Taekwondo Leaders Forum he also met Grandmaster Kim Joong Young, the current President of the Changmookwan. Grandmaster Kim promoted Master Jeffries to 6th Dan in Changmookwan Taekwondo and accepted Stevenage Taekwondo Club as a lifetime member of the World Taekwondo Changmookwan Federation.
In 2013, Master Jeffries attended the Kukkiwon's International Master Training Course in Seoul, South Korea. This is a five day, full-time course followed by a physical exam in front of five 9th Dan Grandmasters. The course covers how to perform Taekwondo techniques properly, sport training methodology, etiquette, history and organising demonstrations. Master Jeffries was proud to be presented with an official citation from the Kukkiwon (20 were given out, the course had 126 attendees) for outstanding effort. He is now a certified Master Instructor, 3rd Class from the Kukkiwon. After the course, Master Jeffries attended the World Taekwondo Leaders Forum again, being certified as a Regular Member.
Deputy Instructor : Master Eron Miah 5th Dan Changmookwan, 4th Dan Kukkiwon
Master Miah began training at Stevenage Taekwondo in March 1995. He started assisting teaching Taekwondo in 2000 and is an ex-Registered British Taekwondo Instructor. He runs the classes when Master Jeffries is away on business or for Taekwondo related trips. He has experience of teaching children from 6 years old upwards and adults up to 3rd Dan.
1990-2012 : Master Carl Lees (Deceased)5th Dan Kukkiwon
Master Lees began training in Taekwondo in 1970 in the UK, but achieved his black belt in Germany under Grandmaster Hwang Chae Pok. After travelling the world with his parents air force career, keeping training in Taekwondo at various dojang (Taekwondo clubs) as he moved, he eventually settled in Stevenage. Master Lees took over the running of Stevenage Taekwondo from Grandmaster Pan in the late 1980s and has helped many students get to black belt and higher dan ranks since then. He graded to 5th Dan in 1997 and was registered with the Kukkiwon (World Taekwondo Headquarters) and was a Registered British Taekwondo Council Instructor (with an Enhanced CRB certificate).
Master Lees unfortunately died in early 2012 from a Scuba Diving accident. His memory lives on at the club and we are all so grateful to have known and been taught by such an excellent instructor for so long.
1987-1990 : Grandmaster Pan Sim Woon 9th Dan Changmookwan, 8th Dan Kukkiwon
Grandmaster Pan founded Stevenage Taekwondo Club in 1987. Grandmaster Pan started learning in the 1960s in Malaysia, originally learning the International Taekwon-do Federation style before crossing over to the Kukkiwon/World Taekwondo Federation style in the 1980s.
Grandmaster Pan is a certified 8th Dan by the Kukkiwon (World Taekwondo Headquarters) and is twice World Poomsae Championship competitor. He is also a certified 1st Class International Master Instructor and Hanmadang Referee by the Kukkiwon, and a World Poomsae Coach by the World Taekwondo Federation.
